Accented Latina/o/x Textese: Bilingual Digital Literacies in Short Message Service (SMS)
Sara Hinojos is is Assistant Professor of Media Studies at CUNY Queens College. She received her Ph.D. in Chicana and Chicano Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research interests include Chicana/o Latina/o media, Language Politics, Popular Culture, and Humor. Hinojos’ manuscript in progress, The Racial Politics of Chicana and Chicano Linguistic Scripts in U.S. Media (1925-2014), focuses on the multiple representations of linguistic “accents” in media and how they continue to racialize, class, and gender the form Chicana/os speak English in the U.S.
